Pastoralist Women Agency for Sustainable Development (PAWA) is a regional grassroots network dedicated to empowering pastoralist women and girls. Initially founded in 2022 as a Community-Based Organization (CBO) in Mandera County, PAWA has grown into a registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), now operating across five Northern Kenya counties: Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, and Marsabit. Our regional secretariat is based in Nairobi and Mandera. PAWA is built on the principles of partnership, empowerment, and advocacy to ensure active representation and meaningful participation of women and girls in all aspects of society. We work to address the unique challenges pastoralist communities face, including education inequality, economic exclusion, access to healthcare, and peacebuilding. Through advocacy, training, and grassroots initiatives, PAWA strengthens community networks, fosters sustainable development, and influences policies that create an inclusive society where every woman and girl can thrive.
A society where everyone lives with dignity and equal opportunity.
To advance women, peace, and security initiatives through rights-based, gender-sensitive approaches that address and prevent human rights violations.
